Valderrama was born in Miami, Florida, to Sobeida and Balbino A. Valderrama. His father is Venezuelan and his mother is Colombian. His parents owned a farm equipment rental company. When he was three, the family moved to Venezuela, then to Colombia. Later, when he was fourteen, the family moved back to the United States.

He is best known for his role as Fez on the Fox Broadcasting Company sitcom That '70s Show, as well as hosting the MTV series Yo Momma (TV series).
