The Indian High Commission in Abuja in collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has released a commemorative stamp as part of activities to mark the 150 birth anniversary of Mahatma Ghandi.
The stamp was jointly released by the High Commissioner of India in Nigeria, Shri Abhay Thakur and Mrs Loretto Nwakama, Chief Operating Officer, NIPOST.
Abhay recalled the importance of Ghandi Ji’s African experiences in shaping his life and philosophy, adding that the release of the commemorative stamp was a fitting tribute to Mahatma and the long standing friendship between Nigeria and India.

The Commissioner noted that “capacity building assistance was an important area of bilateral cooperation between India and Nigeria, including the field of water and sanitation,” adding that at the “Swachh Bharat Diwas” (Clean India Day), being celebrated at Ahmedabad, Gujarat, by the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Water Resources), Government of India, Nigeria’s Minister of Water Resources, was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ekaro Comfort.
